FOMO y uso problemático de redes sociales: revisión de alcance sociológica

Resumen

Esta revisión de alcance mapea 36 estudios sobre miedo a quedar fuera (fear of missing out, FOMO) y uso problemático de redes sociales publicados entre 2016 y abril de 2026 en Scopus, Web of Science, PsycINFO y SciELO. Siguiendo PRISMA-ScR, el objetivo fue sistematizar la evidencia disponible e introducir una lectura sociológica centrada en diseño de plataformas, economía de la atención y desigualdad digital. Los resultados muestran asociaciones positivas robustas entre FOMO y uso problemático
(r = 0.38-0.47 en meta-análisis), pero también una marcada heterogeneidad en la posición analítica del FOMO. Según el estudio, aparece como predictor, mediador, moderador o variable explicada, en relación con dimensiones como autoestima, comparación social, confianza epistémica, apego ansioso y autoconstrucción interdependiente del self. La lectura sociológica propuesta conceptualiza al FOMO como amplificador estructural del malestar: no como causa directa, sino como punto de articulación entre vulnerabilidades subjetivas y arquitecturas de visibilidad, notificación, recomendación y actualización permanente, que pueden intensificar experiencias de exclusión, urgencia social y conexión compulsiva. La revisión identifica brechas relativas a desigualdad, diseño de plataformas y evidencia del sur global, que deberían orientar la investigación sociológica futura.
